Marie’s daily verse: Love prospers when a fault is forgiven,     but dwelling on it separates close friends (Proverbs 17:9 NLT). DAILY DEVOTION, June 28, 2022″We know that we are God’s children, and that the whole world lies under the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19).   Notice that our verse begins with the words “we know.” John does not say, “We think we belong to God; we hope we belong to God.” Instead, he says, “We know.” He is referring to a fact. We know that we are children of God because faith in Christ produces dramatic changes in us. Faith leads to a new birth, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and a new direction for life. These changes are so obvious to us that we can say, “I know I am a child of God.” These words should cause us to do some serious self-examination. Do you KNOW that you are a child of God? Christians should not be in a state of confusion or uncertainty about their relationship with God. We are not searching for God. God has found us through the Gospel, and we know who we are – – – children of God.  We are not simply baptized church members who have some vague interest in Christianity. WE KNOW, and if you don’t know, you may need to examine yourself to see if you truly believe in Jesus and have been born again. Tomorrow we will look at part 2 of this verse. Gracious Father, I thank You for the new birth which brings certainty to my soul. I know I don’t deserve to be a child of God, but Jesus has brought me into the Kingdom through His death and resurrection. May I honor Him in my daily life, Amen.
