Marie’s daily verse: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son (1 John 5:11).

DAILY DEVOTION, June 5, 2024

And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:11-13).

John is writing to Christians, and he wants us to know something. He desires us to know we have eternal life. It is given to us. It is a gift. We have eternal life when we have a relationship with Jesus. Apart from Jesus, eternal life cannot be found. He who has the Son has life. And how do we enter into a relationship with Jesus? By believing in Him. Our relationship with Him is real as long as faith in Jesus is alive. If we do not trust in Jesus, we are cut off from eternal life.

Those who trust in Jesus don’t hope they have eternal life. They do not have to wait until death to learn if they have everlasting life. They KNOW they have eternal life. John wants us to be confident about such an important issue. We know that death awaits all of us. Then what? If you believe the Bible is the Word of God, you have God’s promise that faith in Jesus infallibly leads to eternal life. But what if the Bible is not true? Well, good luck in finding a better guide to spiritual truth.

Our best option is to believe what God says in His inspired Book. When I take a trip, I want to know where I am going and how to get there. My goal is eternal life. I am assured that the way to arrive there is through faith in Jesus. That is God’s promise.

Father in heaven, I want to be in your Kingdom forever. You have shown me the way. May my faith in Jesus be solid and permanent so I may know I possess eternal life. Thank You so much for Your glorious promises, which point the pathway to heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
