  • Marie’s daily verse: The Lord your God is with you,    the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you;    in his love he will no longer rebuke you,    but will rejoice over you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17).DAILY DEVOTION, March 22, 2022Your law is my delight (Psalm 119:74).We are not saved by keeping the law of the Old Covenant. We are saved by faith in Jesus Christ, who brought in a New Covenant. We do not keep the law according to God’s standard. We need a Savior to redeem us from the curse of the law. The law is good, but we are not good. What happens to the law of God once Jesus Christ has redeemed us? Think of God’s law as God’s will. As redeemed sinners, we love the will of God. The law of God is written on our hearts (Jeremiah 31:33). When we are born again, we have a deep love for the will of God. The law of God becomes our delight. Before faith was born, the law of God was like a great weight hanging upon our souls. Once we have been forgiven, we embrace God’s law eagerly. While we still do not obey God perfectly, as we live by faith in Jesus, His forgiving grace covers us.Father, I thank You for revealing Your law to us. While I confess that I have not kept Your law, I thank you for your matchless grace covering my failures. I delight in your law, and I delight in Your grace brought to me in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. I pray In His name, Amen.
  • Marie’s daily verse: 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NIV)But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”Daily Devotion, March 30, 2021Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God (Romans 13:1).Paul tells us to submit to those in authority over us, also reminding us that God is the ultimate authority. God has appointed all lesser authorities. Human government is God’s plan for creating order in the nations. We are to be loyal citizens, respecting those who govern over us. If we disobey government authorities, we are rebelling against God.Of course, governing authorities often stray from the will of God. In that case, we are to obey God rather than men (Acts 5:29). God has decreed human governments, but often, those who rule over us disregard the will of God. When government usurps God’s role and makes laws contrary to the Law of God, we are to obey God. However, Romans 13:1 is clear that we are to obey the government in all things that do not violate Scripture. We are also commanded to pray for those who are in authority (1 Timothy 2:1-2). We should pray that our government leaders will govern under God’s control. Our government was founded by those who recognized the ultimate authority of God. Pray that it will continue.Father, I do pray for those who rule over us in the government. Bless them when they act in harmony with Your will. Restrain them when they act in violation of Your will. Help those who rule to remember that their authority comes from You. I pray in that name which is above every name, Jesus our Lord, Amen.
  • Marie’s Daily Verse: Blessed is the one    who does not walk in step with the wickedor stand in the way that sinners take    or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,    and who meditates on his law day and night (Psalm 1:1-2). DAILY DEVOTION. May 25, 2022Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me (Philippians 3:13, ERV).Paul reflects on his life and presents us with several essential principles. First, he understands that he is not perfect in his faith. He has a long way to go. We are in the same boat. We have not attained perfection, but we continue to strive toward that goal. Then Paul presents us with a weighty principle: forget the past. In my years as a mental health counselor, I spoke with many people who were paralyzed by their past. Parents or others had hurt them, and they could not move beyond the pain. They could not function well in the present because they could not let go of the past.Paul warns us not to let yesterday spoil today. He was always looking forward to opportunities that lay before him. The past is what it is, and we cannot change it. So let it go and see the opportunities that lie ahead for you. Forward-looking people see the opportunities ahead, and they continually make progress. Backward-looking people are stuck in the past and miss the opportunities that are in front of them.Father, I thank You that as I trust in You my past is forgiven. Help me to be a forward-looking person, looking for ways I may serve You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  • Marie’s daily verse: “Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in You alone. ” (Psalm 33:22).DAILY DEVOTION, May 26, 2022The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7, DRA).The Book of Proverbs assumes that the readers have a relationship with God. We know that bond is established by trusting in Jesus as our Savior and Lord. Proverbs gives us much instruction about how to live as redeemed persons. Solomon begins his book of wisdom with the fear of God. I wonder how many of us believe verse 7? Solomon tells us that godly wisdom starts with a fear of God. Do you believe that? What do the words mean? Aren’t we to love God rather than fear Him? Are you afraid of God? You should be, for only through fear do we come to know the God who loves us.The Hebrew word used for fear (yirah) does not mean reverential awe as some like to explain vs. 7. It means to dread, to fear, to be frightened to death. Why is such fear the beginning of wisdom? Until we come to grips with what almighty God will do to the disobedient, we will not fear Him. A God who can cast you into hell is to be feared. Since we are all at different levels of disobedience, what is to become of us? Fear leads us to seek a way to reestablish a relationship with God. Enter Jesus, who reveals to us the forgiving love of God, available to all who trust on Him. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Jesus puts our fear to rest as we trust Him. But who would take Jesus seriously unless he first feared the Lord?Father, Your power is awesome. I do fear what You will do to me as a sinner. However, I have learned about the love of Jesus and His great sacrifice for me. I thank You that I have moved from fear to love because of Him, In His name, Amen.
  • Marie’s daily verse: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).DAILY DEVOTION, May 28, 2022Proverbs 18:2 (NKJV)  “A fool has no delight in understanding, But in expressing his own heart.”  The fool is interested in one thing: his own ideas. He hears divine truth but takes no delight in it. Proverbs 10:8 gives us the consequences. “The wise in heart will receive commands, But a prating fool will fall.”  The fool loves the sound of his own voice and babbles on and on with his verbal silliness, speaking of things that have no ultimate importance. He will not receive the commands of God, and as a result, he falls. He falls farther and farther away from God and from divine truth.I have been in meetings where it is evident that some love to hear the sound of their own voice. They love to express their own hearts, which they think are dripping with wisdom. Solomon refers to those who are enamored with their own wisdom as fools. True wisdom belongs to those who listen to the commands of God. Which fits you better? Are you a prating fool or one who loves the commands of God?Father, deliver me from foolishness. May I receive Your Word with faith, ever seeking to guide my life by Your commandments. Forgive me when foolishness grips my heart. I thank You for the forgiveness I have through Jesus Christ. In His name, I pray. Amen

  • Matthew 17:20 NLT — “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”
  • Marie’s daily verse: Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see Hebrews 11:1). DAILY DEVOTION, June 12, 2022Who among you by worrying can add a single moment to your life? (Matthew 6:27)I want to spend a few days talking about worry. Many biblical passages instruct us not to fear or worry. When the Egyptian army attacked the Israelites at the Red Sea the people were very afraid. But Moses responded, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today” (Exodus 14:13).Over the next few days, I want to give you some principles designed to lead us to a worry-free life. The first is to remember that God loves you and has pledged to protect you. Psalm 23 reminds us that the Lord is our Shepherd. Therefore we lack nothing. Isaiah says that God’s people have gone astray, like sheep. In spite of our habit of going in the wrong direction, Jesus is our Shepherd who watches over us and actively seeks to draw us back to safety. As we trust in the Good Shepherd we have nothing to worry about. When faith is alive nothing can separate us from His loving protection (Romans 8:39).When you are overcome with worry hand it over to Jesus. Trust the Good Shepherd. Yes, we all have our problems but we gain nothing by worrying. Jesus says you cannot add a single moment to your life by worry. Worry eats away at faith. When worry comes remind yourself that you are in the hands of the Good Shepherd and worry will fade away.Lord Jesus, how thankful I am to know that You are my Shepherd. When I am worried and afraid help me to know that You are with me. I believe in Your promise that You will restore my soul as I follow You. You will lead me to overcome all my worries. I thank You for Your loving protection. Amen.

  • Marie’s daily verse: 1 Corinthians 2:12And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.DAILY DEVOTION, June 18, 2022And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace (Romans 15:6).In this context, Paul is speaking of salvation for the Jews. Jews are saved the same way we are, by grace. Paul makes a clear distinction here between grace and works. Grace is the unmerited favor of God bestowed on all who trust in Jesus. Works have to do with our activities, the things we do to please God. Grace and works cannot be mixed. We are not saved by grace plus works. If you think your good works have some bearing on your salvation you have nullified grace. We are not saved in part by what we do, mixed in with God’s grace. Salvation comes to us 100% by God’s grace. Our contribution is zero. Faith is all that is required. Elsewhere Paul makes it clear that faith is to be distinguished from good works (Ephesians 2:8-9).Of course, Christians do good works following salvation. However, we must never think that our good works gain us more saving merit before God. Don’t try to save yourself or help God in the salvation process. He does not need our help! Receive the grace of God by faith.Father, I thank You for sending Jesus to redeem me. How great is Your grace! I trust in Jesus alone for my salvation. In His name, I pray, Amen.
  • Marie’s daily verse: Love prospers when a fault is forgiven,     but dwelling on it separates close friends (Proverbs 17:9 NLT). DAILY DEVOTION, June 28, 2022″We know that we are God’s children, and that the whole world lies under the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19).   Notice that our verse begins with the words “we know.” John does not say, “We think we belong to God; we hope we belong to God.” Instead, he says, “We know.” He is referring to a fact. We know that we are children of God because faith in Christ produces dramatic changes in us. Faith leads to a new birth, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and a new direction for life. These changes are so obvious to us that we can say, “I know I am a child of God.” These words should cause us to do some serious self-examination. Do you KNOW that you are a child of God? Christians should not be in a state of confusion or uncertainty about their relationship with God. We are not searching for God. God has found us through the Gospel, and we know who we are – – – children of God.  We are not simply baptized church members who have some vague interest in Christianity. WE KNOW, and if you don’t know, you may need to examine yourself to see if you truly believe in Jesus and have been born again. Tomorrow we will look at part 2 of this verse. Gracious Father, I thank You for the new birth which brings certainty to my soul. I know I don’t deserve to be a child of God, but Jesus has brought me into the Kingdom through His death and resurrection. May I honor Him in my daily life, Amen.
