Daily Devotion. 2/23/21, Many mansions
Let not your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me. My Father’s house has many rooms; I am going there to prepare a place for you (John 14:1,2).
These words are often spoken at funerals and rightly so. They are among the most comforting words in the New Testament. Jesus tells us that His Father’s house (heaven) has many rooms (or mansions in the King James version). The basic idea is that there is no housing shortage in heaven. There is plenty of room for all who are willing to trust in Jesus. There is room for you.
Jesus is there now. Among His other responsibilities, He is preparing a special place for each of His disciples. What this means in detail is beyond our comprehension. It is enough to know that He is preparing homes for His people. I am sure the Master Carpenter will prepare wonderful places for His redeemed ones.
How do we receive this redemption? Verse one tells us. Believe in God. Believe in the God who created the universe, the God who created you in His image. Believe also in His Son, the Savior who purchased our redemption with His blood at Calvary. Faith in the Father, faith in the Son opens the gates of heaven for us. There is no cost to us. The gift of God is eternal life. If you believe in the Father and the Son, don’t let your heart be troubled. There is a place for you that will bring pure joy throughout eternity.
Gracious God, how can we ever thank You for what You have done for us? Your love and mercy know no limits. I believe in You, and I believe in Your Son, Jesus. Thank You for Your forgiveness and the wonderful future You have promised. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
