And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death (Revelation 12:11).
Our verse reminds us that we are up against a powerful enemy. We are given three ways that we can defeat Satan. First and foremost, by the blood of the Lamb. Satan is referred to as our accuser. His accusations have merit. When he whispers in my heart, saying, “You are not worthy of God’s love. You have violated His commandments repeatedly. You deserve to go to hell.” I can hardly disagree. That is when I say, “Yes, Devil, you are correct. I am a sinner. But Jesus shed His blood to secure my forgiveness. He took my judgment, and I am forgiven.” We gain victory over the devil by the blood of the Lamb.
Our testimony is directed to honor Jesus, the Lamb of God who took away our sins. As we testify to others that we are redeemed through the sacrifice of Jesus, we overcome the assaults of Satan. There is something far more significant than our sins, and that is the blood of Jesus shed for us. We never want to say, “I can gain the victory because I am such a great Christian.” Rather we testify, “I gain the victory because I have a great Savior.”
Over the centuries, many Christians have given up their lives rather than deny Jesus. So far, we have escaped that option. However, deep down in our hearts, there is a love for Jesus stronger than death itself. Yes, I hope I never have to make that choice, but if I do, I pray God will give me the strength to stand up for Jesus whatever the cost.
Gracious Father, I thank You for giving me the tools I need to defeat the enemy. Keep my heart centered on Jesus, and I know all will be well. In His name, I pray. Amen.
