Marie’s daily verse: (Job 34:2-4) Listen to me, you wise men. Pay attention, you who have knowledge. 3Job said, ‘The ear tests the words it hears just as the mouth distinguishes between foods.’ 4So let us discern for ourselves what is right let us learn together what is good .

DAILY DEVOTION. August 21, 2021

From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. (John 6:66).

We looked at this verse recently. I believe it is worthy of a second look. Why do we follow Jesus? Why did the disciples in the above verse abandon Him? Jesus was popular when He fed the 5000 and when He healed the sick. But, when He spoke things difficult to understand, many forsook Him. He spoke of having come down from heaven. Who can believe that? He spoke of eating His flesh and drinking His blood. No way, said many. We are not cannibals.

Why do I follow Jesus? Do I expect Him to bless me always? Will I turn away if I read a passage in the Bible I do not understand? His most audacious claim is that He is the Savior of the world. He said that no one comes to the Father except through Him. Doesn’t that seem arrogant? If He is the Son of God, He is not arrogant but factual. If He is the Son of God, He may say and do things that puzzle me. Many disciples of Jesus abandoned Him. Will I trust and follow Him no matter what? Will you?

Father in heaven, I do trust in Your Son. I do believe He is the Savior of the world and my Savior. Therefore, when I encounter things in the Bible which puzzle me, I pray for understanding.  May I never be a disciple who walks away from Him. In His name, I pray, Amen.
