Marie’s daily verse: If you want to enjoy life    and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil    and your lips from telling lies.11 Turn away from evil and do good.    Search for peace, and work to maintain it.12 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right,    and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face    against those who do evil.” (1 Peter 3:10-12).

DAILY DEVOTION, April 23, 2022

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15).

When we receive a gift we are usually able to describe it. We may accept a gift of clothing or jewelry and we can define to others what we have received. It is different with the gift of God.

We do know a few things about God’s gift to us. We know our sins are forgiven. We know we have received the gift of the Holy Spirit. We know we have access to God through prayer, etc. There is much we do know about how God has gifted us. The Greek word translated “indescribable” could also be translated as “inexpressible.” The idea is that God has blessings in store for His people that cannot be put into words. Our minds are incapable of understanding the good things God has prepared for His people. Heaven will be so grand we lack the vocabulary to describe it. The only response we can make to God is “Thank You, God! I do not know exactly what You have prepared for me but I am looking forwar4d to it with great anticipation.”

Father, we stand in awe before Your great love for us. You have prepared a future for us so grand that we lack the words to describe it. Thank You, Thank You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
