Marie’s daily verse: Psalm 29:11:

May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!

DAILY DEVOTION, September 29, 2022

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith (Romans 3:27).

Look at me! I am a Christian. God has poured out His favor on me. I must have some merit in me that God observed and that caused him to save me. —- Please don’t go down that path. The minute we begin to boast about our Christian faith we are demonstrating that we do not understand faith at all. If we have done so many good works that obligated God to save us, then we would have something to boast about. That is certainly not the case. We are in the category of those who have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

Jesus does not save those who think they are righteous. He saves those who admit they are sinners and who, by faith, receive God’s pardon. Faith is not a good work we can boast about. Faith is the empty hand reaching out to God for His mercy and pardon. God’s mercy and pardon are all wrapped up in Jesus and what He has done for us. Jesus did all the work necessary to redeem us. Boast about Him, not about yourself.

Father in heaven, please forgive me when I begin to boast about myself. Help me to understand that I have nothing to boast about. I trust in Jesus who has achieved my salvation. May my boasting center in Jesus. In whose name I pray, Amen.
