DAILY DEVOTION, January 7, 2023

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4).

This present life is good, but a better life awaits us. Despite the many good things about this life, there are plenty of tears. There are problems with people, pain issues, problems with finances, and finally, we face the reality of death. I have lost my parents, my only brother, and many church members over the years. It was a time for tears. I remember vividly doing a funeral years ago for a six-month-old child, and I broke down in tears during the service. Yes, life is good, but there are many opportunities for tears.

God promises to wipe away the tears from our eyes. There will be no more death or grieving, crying, or pain. Unlike the present order of things, we will live under a new order. Tears and suffering are such a part of this life that it is difficult to imagine a life free of such things. But that is what God has promised to those redeemed by faith in Jesus.  Keep the faith and look forward to an unbelievable future.

Father, I can scarcely imagine what heaven will be like. I am so tied to this life that I can barely imagine a life that never ends free of all pain. Help me to prepare for the future by trusting in Your Son now. In His name, I pray, Amen.
