DAILY DEVOTION, January 25, 2023

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water (Psalm 63:1).

David is praying. His prayer puts me to shame! His longing for God is intense. His seeking is earnest. He longs for God with his whole being. He thirsts for God like one thirsts for water in the desert. Do I ever have such moments? David was not always in that frame of mind, but he knew he had enemies in this context. Some want to see him dead. When he was in serious trouble, he turned to God with intensity.

When life throws serious problems our way, we need to pray David’s prayer. We need to seek God with all our might. He is there to help us if we seek Him. David’s prayer is not necessarily a daily prayer. It is a prayer for those times when we face serious problems. If you are faced with a troublesome issue today, seek the Lord. Let David’s prayer become your prayer.

Father, I thank You for Your love. I know I can count on You when I am in trouble. While You are with me always, there are days when I need to seek Your help with greater intensity. Help me always to remember that I can call upon You. In the blessed name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
