Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

DAILY DEVOTION, March 2, 2022

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “, ‘Has God indeed said You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”(Genesis 3:1).

The serpent is Satan. “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world…” (Revelation 12:9). Satan gets into the mind of Eve by causing her to wonder if she had understood God: “Has God indeed said…” I find it interesting that Satan uses the same tactic today. He constantly strives to persuade us that the Bible is not trustworthy.

I was taught repeatedly in seminary to doubt the Bible. “The Bible contains ideas of ancient people. We cannot accept it as relevant for us today.”  John’s Gospel was a particular target of “progressive” theologians. It was regarded as entirely untrustworthy. For several years I assumed what I was taught in seminary was true. As a result, I doubted the Bible, and I doubted Jesus. I scoffed at the idea that His shed blood had anything to do with me. Satan had done his work on me: “Has God indeed said…”

Don’t allow Satan to get into your head and cause you to doubt the Bible. It will ruin you spiritually.

Father, I thank You that You have spoken to us in Scripture. While there are things in Your book hard to understand, may I never doubt that Your Word is true. When I stopped questioning and began believing, the Bible led me straight to Jesus, my Savior and Lord. May His holy name be honored forever, Amen.
