Marie’s daily verse: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
PSALM 91:1
DAILY DEVOTION, November 10, 2022
“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:22).
Solomon compares a patient person to a mighty warrior who captures a city. The patient person wins out. I think we all struggle with patience. We have our little sayings like, “Lord, give me patience and give it to me right now.” Patience in the New Testament is described as a “fruit of the Spirit.” In other words, the closer we walk in harmony with the Holy Spirit the more patient we are. As we drift away from the Holy Spirit, impatience takes over.
This becomes a test of our Christian maturity. Patient people are those walking with God. As impatience grows in us it is a clear sign that we are too dependent on self and less dependent on God. Are you an impatient person? Pray more, obey more, and as you rely on God your patience will grow. If you are an inpatient person answer this question. Do you prefer being around patient people, or fidgety, grouchy impatient persons? Others will enjoy your company more as you reflect patience.
Father, I confess that sometimes I grow impatient. I pray the Holy Spirit will lead me to a closer walk with Jesus that the fruit of the Spirit (including patience) will be more evident in my life. I pray in the name of Jesus who patiently endured the cross for my sake, Amen.
