Marie’s daily verse: Job 11:18:

Having hope will give you courage. You will be protected and will rest in safety.

Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him or give thanks to Him as God, but became futile in their imaginations, and their foolish hearts were darkened (Romans 1:21).

Why are there atheists in the world? Paul declares in Romans 1 that God’s existence is known by the things He has created (Romans 1:19-20). He declares that to deny the existence of God is inexcusable. What reason do those who reject God give to justify their atheism? I think many do not want to have to give an account to God. They want to be independent. So, they convince themselves that God does not exist. They think that leaves them free to do whatever they wish without having to give an account to God.

Paul says those who make such an unreasonable conclusion have darkened hearts. He adds the words “foolish” and “futile” to describe those who reject God. It is a terrible thing to deny what you know to be the truth. There is no good way to explain the universe apart from a Creator. The theory of evolution is full of logical inconsistencies. Did the universe come into being by accident? Was there a big bang that created the universe? But where did the “stuff” come from that went boom? I think Genesis 1 gives the best answer. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Father, I thank You for clearly revealing Yourself to us in creation. Open the eyes of those who deny You, that they may behold Your existence in the wondrous world You created. May I be a faithful witness to You and Your Son, Jesus, our Savior, in whose name I pray. Amen.
